Doomsday Discs Distance Driver 15|3|-2|2
The Doomsday Discs WMD (Weapon of Maximum Distance) is a novelty disc golf driver that is illegal for sanctioned tournament play. Its extreme design pushes beyond the technical limits set by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), making it a fun and controversial disc for casual rounds.
Key features
- Illegally heavy and fast: With weights ranging from 180 to 190 grams and a stated speed of 16, the WMD is designed for maximum distance in casual play. Its ultra-wide, 25.8mm rim also contributes to its high-speed flight.
- Unique flight path: Despite its weight and rim size, the WMD has an understable turn, meaning it's prone to flipping over during flight. When thrown with enough power on a hyzer angle (hyzer-flip), it can produce a large S-curve for maximum distance.
- Performance for power throwers: Reviews from high-power throwers indicate the disc can achieve huge distances, but the flight can be touchy and requires significant arm speed to control. For forehand throws, it can be less torque-resistant and may burn out.
- Recreational use only: The WMD is popular among players looking for a fun, "meme" disc to throw for the novelty of it, with its extreme specs and illegal status being a key part of its appeal.
Why is it not PDGA-approved?
The WMD fails PDGA approval for two main reasons:
- It exceeds the maximum allowable weight for a driver of its size.
- Its rim width is wider than the PDGA's technical standard limits.
