DGA Prototype driver Catrina Allen 7|6|-3|1

The Vortex was originally a Discraft disc approved in 1990. It was Discraft's first attempt to create a disc similar to the Innova Roc, and was in production until the Discraft MRV replaced it in 2000. The Vortex was retooled around 1992 to increase its glide. Discraft Vortex discs came in Competition plastic and Tournament Pro plastic. The Competition plastic versions were considered to be better because they were flatter and more stable than the domey and flippy Tournament Pro versions.

The DGA Vortex is a separate, newer understable fairway driver co-designed with Catrina Allen. It is known for its excellent glide and control. It is considered a beginner-friendly disc with flight numbers 7/6/-3/1.

The DGA Vortex comes in several plastic types, including:
  • ProLine: Described as having a sweet spot between being easy to turn and being stable enough to hyzer flip and fly straight.
  • ProLine Swirl:
Offers plenty of grip and is not too firm.
  • SP Line: More overstable than the other versions, it will hyzer flip to flat but tends to finish more overstable towards the end of the flight.
  • Atmos: A premium, high-performance blend known for its durability and aesthetics, according to flyhighdiscsupply.com.
  • Proto: Excellent for hyzer-flips that stand up to flat and push forward with a penetrating flight that finishes straight.
